--How To Make a Good First Impression..--

Master Matchmaker Steve Ward of VH1's "Tough Love" hosts a record-breaking speed dating event and gives a Glamour blogger the lowdown on how to put her best foot forward when it comes to men.
~
On a 3-minute date, what should women look for?
Hygiene, style, attitude, intelligence, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. That should cover the gamut.
~
That's a lot! Is it possible for a woman to detect chemistry in 3 minutes, especially if the guy is nervous?
Absolutely, as long as you trust your instincts. There are very few things in this world that are stronger than a woman's intuition. But people don't give themselves enough credit. They draw conclusions about people in the blink of an eye, yet they don't want to trust themselves.
~
What's the biggest mistake women make when dating?
Complain. It's the biggest turn-off to a man. You can actually walk into a room and be covered in guano and it still won't be as bad as complaining. Women take that for granted; the one thing men want more than anything in a relationship is positivity. Women don't understand that. When you show up late for a date because you couldn't find parking, don't spend the first 15 minutes of the date complaining about what you just had to do to get there. Put it behind you. Say, "Hey! Sorry I'm late, but I'm glad I'm here."
~
On a date, should we mirror his body language?
No. You're the one selecting, not them. When you go into a speed date, you need to act like they're applying for a position with you; they're applying for a relationship with you. You're not applying for a relationship with them. Women need to take ownership. Women are in complete control until they take their clothes off. Then it's fair game. So enjoy that, embrace it. The fact is, a guy's going to want to sleep with you from the second he sees you. It's up to you to lead him in the direction you want to go.
~
Is it okay to ask the guys where they're from and what they do?
It's fine! The purpose of the speed date is just to connect with the person. And "What do you do" doesn't necessarily mean, "How much money do you make?" It means, how do you occupy your time? "I'm a student, an artist, I love to play sports." Cool, it sounds like you're doing a lot. If someone goes right into career mode, then clearly that's the only thing you have to hang your hat on.

--Stephen William Hawking--

Stephen William Hawking, CH, CBE, FRS, FRSA (born 8 January 1942) is a British theoretical physicist, whose world-renowned scientific career spans over 40 years. His books and public appearances have made him an academic celebrity and he is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a lifetime member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and in 2009 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
~
Hawking was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge for thirty years, taking up the post in 1979 and retiring on 1 October 2009. He is also a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and a Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario. He is known for his contributions to the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity, especially in the context of black holes. He has also achieved success with works of popular science in which he discusses his own theories and cosmology in general; these include the runaway best seller A Brief History of Time, which stayed on the British Sunday Times bestsellers list for a record-breaking 237 weeks.
~
Hawking's key scientific works to date have included providing, with Roger Penrose, theorems regarding singularities in the framework of general relativity, and the theoretical prediction that black holes should emit radiation, which is today known as Hawking radiation (or sometimes as Bekenstein-Hawking radiation).
~
Hawking has a neuro-muscular dystrophy that is related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a condition that has progressed over the years and has left him almost completely paralysed.

--Want a good look at Mars? Time’s running out.--

Optimal viewing won’t last much longer; next opportunity comes in 2012.
On Thursday night, many people may look up at the sky and ask, "What's that bright star next to the moon?"
~
The answer for Thursday night is Mars, but that answer changes night by night as the moon travels along the ecliptic, the path that the sun, moon and planets follow across the sky. If you ask the question again on March 29, the answer will be the ringed planet Saturn.
~
Such conjunctions of the moon and planets are regular reminders of how rapidly the moon moves across the sky.
~
Mars was in opposition to the sun on Jan. 29, when it appeared 14 arcseconds in diameter, one-120th of the diameter of the moon. Two months later, it is much farther away, and has shrunk to only 10 arcseconds in diameter.
~
This will be your last chance to get a good look at Mars until it approaches the Earth again in 2012.

--Can You Really Predict the Success of a Marriage in 15 Minutes?--

"My goal is to be like the guy who invented Velcro," marriage researcher John Gottman once told an interviewer. "Nobody remembers his name, but everybody uses Velcro." Gottman's own road to Velcro-level fame started with a 1998 article in the Journal of Marriage and the Family. He and his colleagues at the University of Washington had videotaped newlywed couples discussing a contentious topic for 15 minutes to measure precisely how they fought over it: Did they criticize? Were they defensive? Did either spouse curl his or her lip in contempt? Then, three to six years later, Gottman's team checked on the same couples' marital status and announced that based on the coding of the tapes, they could predict with 83 percent accuracy which ones were divorced.
~
Soon reporters had dubbed Gottman's research facility the "love lab," and his powers of prognostication had increased: In another published report, he said he could pick out future divorcees 91 percent of the time based on coding a mere five-minutes of tape. Over the next decade, Gottman's narrow, bald head, fringed by a neat, gray beard and topped by a discreet yarmulke, began to appear everywhere—on 20/20 and The Today Show, in the New York Times Magazine and the Atlantic, and in hundreds of newspapers across the country. Malcolm Gladwell devoted most of a chapter to him in his huge best-seller Blink.
~
In a 2007 survey asking psychotherapists to elect the 10 most influential members of their profession over the last quarter-century, Gottman was only one of four who made the cut who wasn't deceased. "Many in the field now believe that most of what we know about marriage and divorce comes from his work," states an article accompanying the Top 10 list.

--What Happy People Know..--

A medical journalist draws on decades of experience and perspective to reveal what happy, healthy people share.
~
As a health journalist, I've found few analytical tools to be handier than what I call the long view. When whipsawed by "groundbreaking" research that contradicts studies from, oh, just a few weeks before, I find that if I mix the new information into the old, then sit back and wait patiently while it ferments and settles, eventually something I might call truth will rise above the mists of the churning scientific cauldron.
~
The long view reveals other verities as well. I've always been fascinated by people who enjoy truly outstanding physical and mental health. After years of snooping, I've identified certain behaviors and attitudes they all share—a lifestyle, or style of living, that transcends the healthy habits (Eat this, bend that!) we extol. Here's what my notes—and the long view—tell me about the world's most robust inhabitants.

--NASA finds shrimp dinner beneath Antarctica--

updated 10:46 a.m. ET March 15, 2010

WASHINGTON - In a surprising discovery about where higher life can thrive, scientists for the first time found a shrimp-like creature and a jellyfish frolicking beneath a massive Antarctic ice sheet.

Six hundred feet below the ice where no light shines, scientists had figured nothing much more than a few microbes could exist.

That's why a NASA team was surprised when they lowered a video camera to get the first long look at the underbelly of an ice sheet in Antarctica. A curious shrimp-like creature came swimming by and then parked itself on the camera's cable. Scientists also pulled up a tentacle they believe came from a foot-long jellyfish.

--King Norodom Sihanouk. Cambodia--

Norodom Sihanouk Sihanouk3.png regular script Sihanouk4.png (born 31 October 1922) was the King of Cambodia from 1941 to 1955 and again from 1993 until his semi-retirement and voluntary abdication on 7 October 2004 in favour of his son, the current King Norodom Sihamoni. Since his abdication he has been known as The King-Father of Cambodia (Khmer: Preahmâhaviraksat), a position in which he retains many of his former responsibilities as constitutional monarch.
~
The son of King Norodom Suramarit and Queen Sisowath Kossamak, Sihanouk has held so many positions since 1941 that the Guinness Book of World Records identifies him as the politician who has served the world's greatest variety of political offices. These included two terms as King, two as sovereign prince, one as president, two as prime minister, and one as Cambodia's non-titled head of state, as well as numerous positions as leader of various governments-in-exile.
~
Most of these positions were only honorific, including the last position as constitutional King of Cambodia. Sihanouk's actual period of effective rule over Cambodia was from 9 November 1953 (full independence granted to Cambodia) to 18 March 1970 (Lon Nol and the National Assembly depose Sihanouk).

--King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Thailand--

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Royal Institute: Phumiphon Adunyadet; Thai: ภูมิพลอดุลยเดช, pronounced [pʰuːmipʰon adunjadeːt]( listen);[missing tone] see full title below) (born 5 December 1927), is the current King of Thailand. Publicly acclaimed "the Great" (Thai: มหาราช, Maharaja), he is also known as Rama IX. Having reigned since 9 June 1946, he is the world's longest-serving current head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history. He is seen as so important by the Thai people that his ill-health has affected the financial markets.

~
Although Bhumibol is legally a constitutional monarch, he has made several decisive interventions in Thai politics. He was credited with facilitating Thailand's transition to democracy in the 1990s, although he has supported some military regimes, including Sarit Dhanarajata's during the 1960s and the Council for National Security in 2006-2008. He has been accused of interfering in politics, although since this would be unconstitutional of him and accusers are liable to be charged with lèse majesté. During his long reign he has presided over 15 coups, 16 constitutions, and 27 changes of prime ministers. He has also used his influence to stop military coups, including attempts in 1981 and 1985.

--What’s Really in Your Food?--

Ever wonder what’s actually in a McDonald’s Chicken McNugget? Turns out, the “chicken” alone contains seven ingredients. And that’s before you even get to the breading. Sadly, many of our favorite foods (especially fast foods) weren’t merely crafted in kitchens, they were also designed and perfected in labs. We uncovered the ugly truth when doing research for Eat This, Not That! Restaurant Survival Guide. What we found wasn’t pretty—or appetizing. Before you mindlessly chew your way through another value meal, take these mini-mysteries (conveniently solved below) into account. Sometimes the truth is tough to swallow.
~~
What’s in a Chicken McNugget?
You’d think that a breaded lump of chicken would be pretty simple. Mostly, it would contain bread and chicken. But the McNugget and its peers at other fast-food restaurants are much more complicated creatures than that. The “meat” in the McNugget alone contains seven ingredients, some of which are made up of yet more ingredients. (Nope, it’s not just chicken. It’s also such nonchicken-related stuff as water, wheat starch, dextrose, safflower oil, and sodium phosphates.) The “meat” also contains something called “autolyzed yeast extract.” Then add another 20 ingredients that make up the breading, and you have the industrial chemical—we mean, fast-food meal—called the McNugget. Still, McDonald’s is practically all-natural compared to Wendy’s Chicken Nuggets, with 30 ingredients, and Burger King Chicken Fries, with a whopping 35 ingredients.

--When sex is bad for you...--

When lovemaking becomes a potential health hazard. Yes, let's not get too excited, please.

We look at some of the potential health dangers that are involved during sex.

Heart attack

The notion that sex can actually bring about a heart attack has actually be around for some time and it has been found that the average 50 year old male who is a non smoker doubles the odds of a heart attack when they have sex.

~

However, if you have had a stroke or heart trouble, the chance of sex causing a heart attack is about two in a million which is double the risk for healthy people in the hours after sexual intercourse.

~

Although heart attacks during sex are rare, no one wants to be among the unlucky few who die while getting lucky. So if you have cardiovascular disease (CVD), or even if it runs in your family, it's important to ask your doctor what type of sexual activity is safe.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

According to research published in Medical Hypotheses journal, the extra weight put on your wrists during sexual intercourse is probably a major contributing factor to carpal tunnel syndrome. And the data that helps prove this shows an increase in carpal tunnel syndrome with the introduction of medications like Viagra and the ever-worsening obesity epidemic.

~

For those of you who haven’t heard of this syndrome before, it is the irritation of the median nerve which causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers.

~

The wrist is surrounded by a band of tough tissue that normally functions as a support for the joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve.

~

The fact that sex is the most widely practiced activity that uses both hands at the same time only strengthens the hypothesis. However, the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome drops off later in life coinciding with a decrease in sexual activity.

Pregnancy problems

We all know that potentially one outcome of having sex can lead to pregnancy and while this isn’t a health hazard and having sex while pregnant doesn’t cause miscarriage, premature labour or any other complication; if you have a low lying placenta having sex may be a risk.

~

This exception should be especially adhered to if this has caused bleeding during pregnancy. Other times that when sex should be avoided when you are pregnant is if you’re leaking amniotic fluid, you have placenta previa or you are at risk from preterm labour.

~

Many couples worry that sex during pregnancy will cause a miscarriage, especially in the first trimester. But sex isn't a concern. Early miscarriages are usually related to chromosomal abnormalities or other problems in the developing baby, not to anything you do or don't do.

Male injuries

A common battle scar for men from their bedroom activities can be a rip in the skin connecting the foreskin and the penis and this is known as a torn frenulum. It heals but with a scar, which is likely to tear again so it is best to avoid sex for a couple of days. It’s a relatively common problem and once it has totally healed both men and women can reduce their risk of genital cuts and tears from sex using a condom or extra lubrication to cut your chances of further trouble.

~

However, it is not only men who suffer from small tears as this is also common for women. Many have had the experience of noticing slight bleeding from vaginal sex as a result of getting tiny cuts or tears in their vagina or vulva as a result of intense friction from sex.

‘Fractures’

You may think this is one of those crazy sex myths, but penis fractures can happen and a guy can actually fracture their penis during sex which is a crack caused by the rigid tissue snapping during gymnastic sex. Most reported cases happen when the woman is on top of the man or when the man gets slightly carried away and thrusts deeply into their partner with a great deal of vigor and hitting hard against the pubic bone.

~

Penile fractures are usually accompanied by a popping sound and then an immediate loss of erection for the man followed, some hours later, by bruising and severe pain. A penis fracture requires urgent medical attention and a fracture can usually be diagnosed with a physical exam, and prompt surgical repair is typically recommended. Left untreated, a penis fracture may result in deformity of the penis or the inability to have or maintain an erection.
~

The penis is made of two sponge like bodies, which fill up with blood when you have an erection and that's what gives penises rigidity. When it's really over bent or when you apply too much pressure, the penis can break and what is breaking is the layer of fibre sheath.

~

Sex isn't the only way a man can break his penis as any time the penis is hit while erect, damage can occur. On the other hand If it's flaccid, you cannot have a penile fracture.

Girly pains
It is very common for women to experience pain during intercourse at some point during their lives. However, pain during intercourse can detract from an enjoyable experience which is not good, and it might also signal more serious problems. The discomfort which can be experienced during intercourse can be down to the ovaries being bumped during sex causing a pain deep inside. This is a common pain for women and can be alleviated by changing the depth and position of penetration. As soon as you feel the pain, it is important to stop and change positions. On the other hand it could be ovarian cysts.
~

Another possibility may be that it's your cervix that is hurting. Many women tend to have tender cervixes throughout different times in their cycles.

~

On the whole if the pain continues to occur, you should make an appointment with a health care provider for an evaluation.

Headache
Headaches are never fun, but they can be downright frustrating when they occur after sex. If you're unfortunate enough to experience this symptom, you're not alone. While having a headache is used by some women to turn down the advances of their partner and therefore is just seen as an excuse, a throbbing headache can actually be the result of sex which happens during or after the act itself.
~

This orgasm headache is a type of migraine called ‘benign coital headache’ which tends to happen before or at climax. Although benign coital or orgasmic headaches are very painful, and obviously limit sexual enjoyment, they present no other acute threat. They are thought to result from muscle contraction, and/or blood vessel dilation, in the head and neck during sex.

~

However, the other type of headache that can occur is the ‘new onset’ severe headache during sex. This is a first time headache, which is generally characterised as the worst headache of a personas life. This type of sex headache is a serious emergency until proven otherwise. Such a headache is often due to an acute brain haemorrhage or other serious condition. Fortunately, this type of first onset headache is fairly unusual, but when it does occur it can represent a life threatening emergency, which requires emergency evaluation and treatment.

--Mild earthquake hits Tasik Kenyir area. Kuala Terengganu. Malaysia--

A mild 2.6-magnitude earthquake shook the Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu area at 11.10pm Wednesday (03.10.2010).

The earthquake was the second in more than 20 years.

The quake had an epicenter at 43km Southwest of Kuala Terengganu and 22km West of Kuala Berang.

According to Bernama, Dr Mohd Rosaidi Che Abas, director of the Malaysian Meterological Department's (MMD) Geophysics and Tsunami division said that "the earthquake last night may have been linked to the one that happened 20 years ago or the release of tectonic gas from the gas bearing basin or the plate tectonic setting in Terengganu."

He added that in the 1980s, Kenyir was hit by a 4.6 magnitude earthquake when the Kenyir Dam was being filled.

Dr Rosaidi mentioned that since it was the first case in 20 years, his department will work closely with the Mineral and Geosciences Department to find the actual cause of the quake.

He said that people shouldn't worry as a 2.6 scale earthquake was a mild one.

--Will You......?--

I don't think you will
ever fully understand
how you've touched my life
and made me who I am.
just how truly special you are
that even on the darkest nights
you are my brightest star.
how you've made my dreams come true
or how you've opened my heart
to love and the wonders it can do.
something very hard to find
unconditional love that exists
in my body, soul, and mind.
~
I don't think you could ever feel
all the love I have to give
and I'm sure you'll never realize
you've been my will to live.
~
You are an amazing person
and without you I don't know where I'd be.
Having you in my life
completes and fulfills every part of me.....
