--Back in Defense after 50years--

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (海上自衛隊 ,Kaijō Jieitai), or JMSDF, is the maritime branch of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, tasked with the naval defense of Japan. It was formed following the dissolution of the Imperial Japanese Navy after World War II.

The JMSDF is a large fleet, largely consisting of destroyers, and has significant blue-water operating capabilities. The force is based strictly on defensive armament, largely lacking the offensive weapons typically handled by naval forces of equivalent size. Currently, its main tasks are to maintain control of the nation's sea lanes and to patrol territorial waters. It has also stepped up its participation in UN-led peacekeeping operations (PKOs) and Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIOs).

The JMSDF has an official strength of 46,000 personnel (currently around 45,800 personnel), operating 119 major warships, including twenty submarines, fifty-three destroyers and frigates, twenty-nine mine warfare ships, nine patrol craft and nine amphibious ships (total displacement of approx. 432,000 tons). It also has 179 fixed-wing aircraft and 135 helicopters. Most of these aircraft are used in antisubmarine and mine warfare operations.

The ship prefix for JMSDF ships is JDS (Japanese Defense Ship) for all ships commissioned before 2008. Ships commissioned on or after 2008 will use the prefix JS (Japanese Ship) to reflect the upgrading of the Japanese Defense Agency to the Ministry of Defense.

--Concorde @ 40 1969-2009--

London April 10, 2003: British Airways announced today the retirement of its Concorde fleet of seven aircraft with effect from the end of October 2003.

The airline said that its decision had been made for commercial reasons with passenger revenue falling steadily against a backdrop of rising maintenance costs for the aircraft.

Is a supersonic passenger airliner or supersonic transport (SST). It was a product of an Anglo-French government treaty, combining the manufacturing efforts of Aérospatiale and British Aircraft Corporation. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued for 27 years.

~

Concorde flew regular transatlantic flights from London Heathrow (British Airways) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (Air France) to New York JFK and Washington Dulles, profitably flying these routes at record speeds, in less than half the time of other airliners. Concorde also set many other records, including the official FAI "Westbound Around the World" and ""Eastbound Around the World world air speed records.

Concorde was the more successful of the only two supersonic airliners to have ever operated commercially, the Tupolev Tu-144 being the other. The Tu-144 was nicknamed "Concordski" by Western Europeans for its outward similarity to the Concorde, having flown first, having a higher maximum speed, but required more fuel and had less range than Concorde. It has been frequently suggested that through Soviet espionage efforts, Concorde blueprints were stolen to develop the Tu-144.

With only 20 aircraft ultimately built, the costly development phase represented a substantial economic loss. Additionally, Air France and British Airways were subsidised by their governments to buy the aircraft. As a result of the type's only crash (on 25 July 2000), world economic effects arising from the 9/11 attacks, and other factors, operations ceased on 24 October 2003. The last "retirement" flight occurred on 26 November 2003.

Concorde remains an icon of aviation history, and has acquired an unusual nomenclature for an aircraft. In common usage in the United Kingdom, the type is known as "Concorde" rather than "the Concorde" or "a Concorde".

Since the first loan was extended for the development of Prek Tonot in 1968, Japanfs Official Development Assistance (ODA), notwithstanding the interruptions during 1970f and 80f, has consistently supported Cambodia to enhance the welfare of Cambodian people.

Especially since the Japanese Peace Keeping Operation corps was dispatched to Cambodia 1992, Japan not only has extended its diplomatic efforts for the political restoration of peace and stability, but also made available a significant portion of its ODA resources in support of the physical and social rehabilitation of the war-torn Cambodia. Our ODA accounts as much as 20 % of the total ODA inflow received by Cambodia, making Japan the biggest donor in the country.

Being a top donor also accompanies responsibilities to contribute to achieve certain development goals. In order to keep the quality of our aid, Japan keeps close consultation with the Royal Government of Cambodia, and provides grants, technical cooperation, and yen loans in support primarily in the following areas:

1. Development of social and economic infrastructure
2. Improvement of basic social services, including health and education
3. Promotion of agriculture and rural development
4. Human resource development.

Daniel Munthe Agger (born 12 December 1984) is a Danish professional footballer who currently plays as a central defender for English club Liverpool. He started his senior career at Danish club Brøndby IF in July 2004, with whom he won the 2005 Danish Superliga championship. Since his debut in June 2005, he has been capped 22 times and scored three goals for the Danish national team.

Daniel Agger is a cultured centre-back who arrived from Brondby IF for a fee of approximately £5million in January 2006.

~

The Denmark international is now firmly established in Rafa Benitez's first team, with his ability on the ball allowing Liverpool to build from the back.

~

Agger made his professional breakthrough for Brondby in 2004 and, under the guidance of club captain Per Nielsen, quickly developed into a classy defender with a maturity beyond his years.

In December 2004 he won the Spillerforeningen Talent of the Year award (the Danish equivalent of PFA Young Player of the Year), which he retained in 2005.

By the end of his debut season he was clutching Danish Cup and Superliga medals, and it was no surprise when, in June 2005, Agger won his first cap in a friendly with Finland. A few months later he excelled against Wayne Rooney and England before scoring his first international goal in a World Cup qualifier against Georgia.

A move abroad seemed inevitable, with the north-west of England his chosen destination in January 2006.

Denmark's most expensive export made his Reds debut against Birmingham on February 1, though injury meant his first few months on Merseyside were spent largely on the sidelines.

The 2006-07 campaign saw Agger force his way into the starting XI, and he even won PFA Player of the Month for September.

A 35-yard belter against West Ham did his kudos no harm, with the strike winning Liverpoolfc.tv's Goal of the Season.

The highlight of his first full campaign came in the Champions League semi-final second leg versus Chelsea, when his left-foot strike took the game to penalties. Agger went on to play 90 minutes in the final against AC Milan.

A metatarsal break left the popular defender on the sidelines for a large chunk of 2007-08 but there was some joy when Denmark's top players and managers voted him Player of the Year for the first time.
