陳水扁（1950年10月12日－），前台灣律師、政治人物，出生於台灣台南縣官田鄉西庄村，曾任中華民國總統（2000年 - 2008年）、民主進步黨黨主席、台北市議員、立法院立法委員、台北市市長等職位。

由於「阿」字後面加尾名是台語人名簡稱的習慣用法，多用於親友間對平輩和晚輩的叫法，故自稱「阿扁」以表現親民作風，台灣媒體習慣稱呼陳水扁的家庭亦稱「扁家」，對其所領導的中華民國政府為「扁政府」。

陳水扁競選2000年中華民國總統選舉時獲得諾貝爾獎得主李遠哲博士支持推薦，後當選為第一位政黨輪替的民選總統，2004年3月19日總統大選遭遇槍擊，之後以0.228%差距險勝對手。

陳水扁是中華民國第二位民選總統，也是首位非中國國民黨黨籍的總統，任內積極推動台灣的正名制憲運動以及台灣入聯運動，在經貿方面則採用「南向政策」及「積極管理，有效開放」的兩岸經貿架構。

夫人為吳淑珍（1952年7月11日－），育有一子陳致中、一女陳幸妤，認養家扶中心義子吳岳庭。

總統任內後期因自身與民進黨相關人士接連弊案，以及中央執政團隊爭議不斷，使民眾普遍對民進黨政府觀感不佳，以致於後來的直轄市、縣市長、立法委員、縣市議員...等選舉，敗於對立的中國國民黨；其中2008年立法委員選舉，令民主進步黨從原來國會最多席次的政黨，掉到剩27席，而國民黨卻有81席，足有三倍之多；縣市首長選舉2001年國民黨與民主進步均為9席，但2005年選舉時，卻分別為14席與6席。在長期陳水扁民意低迷情況下，2008年總統大選時，即便國民黨總統候選人馬英九因多項指控而遭致非議，最後仍以總得票約59%擊敗民進黨候選人謝長廷，取回中央執政權。

2010年12月2日，陳水扁夫婦因收受台泥辜家3億，遭判處11年，發監至台北監獄服刑，囚犯編號為1020。

--2018 FIFA World Cup Belgium and the Netherlands--

Eleven bids were submitted in March 2009 covering thirteen nations, with two joint bids: Belgium-Netherlands and Portugal-Spain. Mexico also submitted a bid, but withdrew theirs on 28 September 2009, while Indonesia had their bid rejected for lack of government support on 19 March 2010. Five of the remaining nine bids, South Korea, Qatar, Japan, Australia and United States are only for the 2022 World Cup, while all the others are bidding for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. However, since all of the bids for the 2018 World Cup are from European nations, and FIFA's rules dictate that countries belonging to confederations that hosted either of the two preceding tournaments are not eligible to host, all of these bids are now forced to be for 2018 only. Four bids come from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), four from Europe's UEFA, and one from CONCACAF. It had also been reported on the FIFA website that Egypt was entering a bid, but the president of the Egyptian Football Association denied that any more than an inquiry in principle had been made. The number of bids received meant that the 2018 World Cup is the most contested bid in FIFA's history.

--Leslie Nielsen dies at age 84--

Leslie William Nielsen, OC (February 11, 1926 – November 28, 2010) was a Canadian-American actor and comedian. Nielsen appeared in over 100 films and 1,500 television programs over the span of his career, portraying over 220 characters.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Nielsen enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked as a disc jockey before receiving a scholarship to Neighborhood Playhouse. Beginning with a television role in 1948, he quickly expanded to over 50 television appearances two years later. Nielsen appeared in his first films in 1956 and began collecting roles in dramas, westerns, and romance films. Nielsen's lead roles in the science fiction film Forbidden Planet (1956) and disaster movie The Poseidon Adventure (1972) for which he received positive reviews as a serious actor.

(CBS) On Wednesday the Obama administration called the North's artillery attack a "premeditated" violation of the longstanding truce.

CBS News correspondent Celia Hatton reports images of emotional memorials, exhausted evacuees and mangled buildings gripped South Korea Wednesday. The country is on high alert following Tuesday's artillery battle between North and South Korea that killed two South Korean marines and two civilians on the island Yeonpyeong.

"I was really scared," said one evacuee.

Buddhist monks have gathered in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh to express condolence to the families of at least 378 people who were killed on Monday evening in a stampede. Cambodia's prime minister, Hun Sen, has called the incident the nation's most tragic event since the end of the Khmer Rouge regime. The government has ordered an investigation but already several different explanations have emerged. Some survivors say police made the situation worse by spraying water over people who had collapsed on a bridge, not realising that they had suffered electric shocks.
