--Canberra-Earth Hour '08--

Mllions of Australians joined Earth Hour on Saturday March 29, between 8.00pm and 9.00pm by flicking the switch, turning appliances off stand-by and enjoying an hour of quiet darkness.
Residents and businesses across Canberra showed their support for Earth Hour resulting in an impressive 11.4 per cent drop in electricity consumption for the hour, according to ActewAGL.Canberra also led the nation with an outstanding 73 per cent participating in Earth Hour, according to research company AMR Interactive.
-
AMR Interactive surveyed close to 3,400 Australians and found 58 per cent participated in Earth Hour by switching off lights, turning off computers, televisions and other household appliances.“The overwhelming support for Earth Hour from Australians across the country has amazed us and shows the willingness of both business and individuals to start cutting emissions,” said WWF-Australia Earth Hour Director, Andy Ridley."It shows Australia is committed to reducing the threats linked to global warming and we have proved by acting together we can start to make a difference.
-
This energy saving represents a reduction of 36 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissionsthe equivalent of taking 8.4 cars off the road for an entire year.“To congratulate Canberra, we would like to confirm our pledge to purchase enough green energy to offset the remaining essential electricity used by the city during Earth Hour – the equivalent of taking a further 65 cars off the road for a year.

“I am confident the Earth Hour message will live beyond the event itself, with long-term commitments being made by individuals, businesses and governments to save energy into the future.”

--Earth Hour 2008-29th March 2008--

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

Earth hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008.

--Love Is.....--

Love is patient, love is kind,
And what our loves express is true.
No amount of tragedy can tear
Or break the love I have for you.
~
Time has healed our many wounds,
But has not erased the memory.
But we'll hold on, we'll stay together.
We will get through this, you and me.
~
Though we are young and still learning
About ourselves, our world today,
In my heart, I'll always love you,
And in my heart you'll always stay.
~
As days go by, as time progresses,
We will change, mature, and always grow.
But as we grow, as we reminisce,
There is one thing I will always know.
~
My love for you will never falter,
Never cease, for it's always true.
With love comes patience, but it's worth the wait,
To share my unending love with you.

As a result, at 8pm on the 29 March, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off for Earth Hour.

--13 Things Not to Share with Your Co-workers--

--To avoid your next case of verbal diarrhea, here are 13 things to never share or discuss with your co-workers.

1. Salary informationWhat you earn is between you and Human Resources, Solovic says. Disclosure indicates you aren’t capable of keeping a confidence.

2. Medical history“Nobody really cares about your aches and pains, your latest operation, your infertility woes or the contents of your medicine cabinet,” Lopeke says. To your employer, your constant medical issues make you seem like an expensive, high-risk employee.

3. GossipWhomever you’re gossiping with will undoubtedly tell others what you said, Solovic says. Plus, if a co-worker is gossiping with you, most likely he or she will gossip about you.

4. Work complaintsConstant complaints about your workload, stress levels or the company will quickly make you the kind of person who never gets invited to lunch, Solovic warns. If you don’t agree with company policies and procedures, address it through official channels or move on.

5. Cost of purchasesThe spirit of keeping up with the Joneses is alive and well in the workplace, Lopeke says, but you don’t want others speculating on the lifestyle you’re living –or if you’re living beyond your salary bracket.

6. Intimate detailsDon’t share intimate details about your personal life. Co-workers can and will use the information against you, Solovic says.

7. Politics or religion“People have strong, passionate views on both topics,” Solovic says. You may alienate a co-worker or be viewed negatively in a way that could impact your career.

8. Lifestyle changesBreakups, divorces and baby-making plans should be shared only if there is a need to know, Lopeke says. Otherwise, others will speak for your capabilities, desires and limitations on availability, whether there is any truth to their assumptions or not.

9. Blogs or social networking profileWhat you say in a social networking community or in your personal blog may be even more damaging than what you say in person, Solovic warns. “Comments online can be seen by multiple eyes. An outburst of anger when you are having a bad day … can blow up in your face.”

10. Negative views of colleaguesIf you don’t agree with a co-worker’s lifestyle, wardrobe or professional abilities, confront that person privately or keep it to yourself, Lopeke says. The workplace is not the venue for controversy.

11. Hangovers and wild weekendsIt’s perfectly fine to have fun during the weekend, but don’t talk about your wild adventures on Monday, Solovic advises. That information can make you look unprofessional and unreliable.

12. Personal problems and relationships – in and out of the office“Failed marriages and volatile romances spell instability to an employer,” Lopeke says. Office romances lead to gossip and broken hearts, so it’s best to steer clear. “The safest way to play is to follow the rule, ‘Never get your honey where you get your money.’”

13. Off-color or racially charged commentsYou can assume your co-worker wouldn’t be offended or would think something is funny, but you might be wrong, Solovic says. Never take that risk. Furthermore, even if you know for certain your colleague wouldn’t mind your comment, don’t talk about it at work. Others can easily overhear.

--Easter--

According to the New Testament, Christ was crucified on the eve of Passover and shortly afterward rose from the dead. In consequence, the Easter festival commemorated Christ's resurrection.
-
In time, a serious difference over the date of the Easter festival arose among Christians. Those of Jewish origin celebrated the resurrection immediately following the Passover festival, which, according to their Babylonian lunar calendar, fell on the evening of the full moon (the 14th day in the month of Nisan, the first month of the year); by their reckoning, Easter, from year to year, fell on different days of the week.
-
Christians of Gentile origin, however, wished to commemorate the resurrection on the first day of the week, Sunday; by their method, Easter occurred on the same day of the week, but from year to year it fell on different dates. An important historical result of the difference in reckoning the date of Easter was that the Christian churches in the East, which were closer to the birthplace of the new religion and in which old traditions were strong, observed Easter according to the date of the Passover festival. The churches of the West, descendants of Greco-Roman civilization, celebrated Easter on a Sunday.

--God's Friday--

--Good Friday, Friday immediately preceding Easter, celebrated by Christians as the anniversary of Christ’s crucifixion. The name “Good Friday” is generally believed to be a corruption of God’s Friday. Since the time of the early Church, the day has been dedicated to penance, fasting, and prayer.

In the Roman Catholic Church, the Good Friday liturgy is composed of three distinct parts: readings and prayers, including the reading of the Passion according to St John; the veneration of the cross; and a general communion service (formerly called the Mass of the Pre-sanctified), involving the reception of pre-consecrated hosts by the priest and faithful.

From the 16th century onward, the Good Friday service took place in the morning; in 1955 Pope Pius XII decreed that it be held in the afternoon or evening. As a result, such traditional afternoon devotions as the Tre Ore (Italian, “three hours”), consisting of sermons, meditations, and prayers centring on the three-hour agony of Christ on the cross, were almost entirely discontinued in the Roman Catholic Church.

Good Friday is a legal holiday in many Christian countries.

桜 – Hana
~
How happy, spring has come over the Sumida*,
Rowing up, rowing down in the warm sunbeams,
Drops from the boatmen’s oars look like cherry blooms,
How can I describe for you the view o’er the streams?
~
Lo, see the cherry trees that stand in the morning mist,
I hear them speak to me in a tender tone,
In the eve I love to see the waving willows,
They stretch their hands to me strolling alone.

Oh, see the hazy moon rising o’er the banks,
Rows of cherry trees standing o’er the stream,
How I love the cherry blossoms in the moonlight!
How can I describe for you the night like in a dream?

It is so peaceful at sunset,
They show all dreams to be met
In it, memories are also held
There in your heart, your fears are quelled

As the sun dips low in the sky
It reminds you of all those times you flew high
And with those memories of soaring above,
You have the hope and strength to find your love

Because at that sunset you find peace
There, is where your fears all cease
For dreams you find your strength to fly
There, in that sunset sky.

--No Copy--

--The Society--

--There's nothing morally wrong here. No laws are being broken; no one is being robbed or assaulted. It's just extremely ugly. Such a sight nudges us towards philosophy: What is ugliness? And what is actually bad about it?

Ugliness is generally the physical equivalent of an unhappy state of mind. It is depression, anxiety and hopelessness made visible. This environment is at odds with human flourishing. Ugliness gets under our skin and induces a feeling of misery: the unhappiness of the environment is contagious.

This is a pure instance of ugliness: probably no one likes it; it's not the result of a deliberate plan — it's an accident caused by lack of money, neglect and a general sense that other problems are more pressing and have to be addressed first.

So when we see something that strikes us as ugly, the question we should be asking is what lies behind this: what is the state of mind of which this is the outcome? It might be a hectoring, abrasive self-assertion; it might be despair.

"OR IT MIGHT BE meanness."

When it comes to people, ugliness is an extremely fraught topic. That's because we know perfectly well that to judge a person by the comeliness or elegance of their physical appearance is extremely unkind, and also that it fails to take into consideration the fact that almost everything that matters about people is independent of physical appearance: we want to know about a person's soul — what are they like inside, how kind or interesting or helpful are they.

But we are probably hardwired to take physical appearance into account. Good posture, lustrous hair, bright eyes, a lithe, strong body: these are all elemental signs of physical well being. Genetically, it makes sense for human beings to strongly prefer such appearances. And we do. It's just that we know that other qualities matter as well.

Discussion of ugliness always stumbles, sooner or later, on the question of subjectivity. Surely what one person finds ugly another might find lovely. Surely what was regarded as ugly in one era is seen as charming in another; what is disliked in one culture is sought out in another. There is some truth to these observations. They record the external facts of changes in preference. But it is less clear what the implications are for how we should think of ugliness.

But there are many issues in private and social life that are both intimate and important. They are subjective in the sense that they are personal, that they reflect who we are, that they go deep with us as individuals. But they are at the same time matters on which things can go badly wrong.

Boredom provides the best analogy. In a way, I can't possibly be wrong that I feel bored, just as I can't be wrong that I think something ugly. But my boredom might reveal something far from admirable about me: I'm bored because I'm insensitive, unintelligent and incapable of concentration or effort. And, sometimes at least, an inability to notice ugliness may have very similar causes.

--Anomaly--

-A latest news from NASA-

--Mysteriously, four spacecraft that flew past the Earth have each displayed unexpected anomalies in their motions.

-These new found enigmas join the so-called
"Pioneer anomaly" as hints that unexplained forces may appear to act on spacecraft.

-A decade ago, after rigorous analyses, anomalies were seen with the identical Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft as they hurtled out of the solar system. Both seemed to experience a tiny but unexplained constant acceleration toward the sun.

-A host of explanations have been bandied about for the Pioneer anomaly. At times these are rooted in conventional science — perhaps leaks from the spacecraft have affected their trajectories. At times these are rooted in more speculative physics — maybe the
law of gravity itself needs to be modified.
